The big and terrible twos.
Something silly clowns is TWO
Hi everyone Dizzy and Cupcake here! It’s been a while, and we’ve missed you!
Before we get into our year-end roundup, we feel like we should explain why it’s been so
long since you’ve heard from us. The simple truth is that we just couldn’t keep up with
everything. Please don’t think that we have lost our enthusiasm for clowning, we haven’t,
but underneath the makeup and costumes we are real people with real lives as well, and as
we are here to share what it’s really like when your a clown, it’s only fair for us to tell you
that sometimes due to circumstances you can’t control (or ones that you have little control
over) you can’t always do everything you had planned on. It’s been a busy year for us,
personally, and we also had some things crop up in the middle of our clowning that slowed
us down, that we are about to tell you about. So we’re sorry that it’s been so long, but
sometimes life has to happen, even when you're a clown.
Ideas from last year:
The first thing that we said last year that we wanted to do this year was find a co-op that we
could do a performance at. This did not happen this year but maybe in 2019. The next thing
that we had said that we wanted to do was to go to a nursing home for an event. We also
did not go to a nursing home this year but we are going to work on getting a date on the
calendar.
As you will continue to read we kinda did a photo shoot. We did not get an entire photo
shoot in but we would love to do more photos in different seasons as we talked about last
year. We also talked about doing 3-4 performances and keep up the blog. Both of those
things we sorta did.
The last thing that we talked about doing was training in new clowns. We have started to
train in a new clown and stay tuned to mean her.
We did it!
Over this last year, we didn’t quite do all that we had hoped to, as we’ve already said, but
that’s not to say that we haven’t done some awesome stuff anyway! The most obvious thing
that we have to celebrate is the second birthday of Something Silly Clowns! When we
started out two years ago, we honestly had no idea what we were getting ourselves into,
much like when we started clowning, but now that we can look back TWO WHOLE YEARS!
We can look at how much we’ve grown (in more ways than one, but we’ll get to that in a
moment.) and how blessed we are to be able to continue to grow, and teach others about
God through this ministry. We also managed to pull off one whole performance about
kindness! Although this performance is very similar to our other Fruits of the Spirit lessons
that we’ve done, it’s also the last one we are going to do in the same style as our others, so
it marks a change in our clowning, and that’s big! We also managed to keep up with our
monthly posts for about 6 months, and as many others, bloggers could tell you quite an
achievement on its own! Most excitingly this year we began to train in a new clown! We are
SO excited to work on growing our tiny troupe to three! This coming year we hope to show
you all Storm a little better, and we just can’t wait to see her in action, and how she’ll grow
and add to our group.
Best moment:
Our very best moment from this last year was when we started training in Storm. Seeing a
new clown just starting out is stirring up endless memories of our earlier days, in a way that
we never could have anticipated. Not to mention that the thought of our tiny troupe growing
to three is incredible!
Toughest problems:
Now as you know, we’ve had a few problems with keeping up on our monthly posts here,
but we’re afraid that this was not the only problem we’ve had throughout this year, so here
are a few of our toughest moments. As we’ve mentioned above, we pulled off one whole
performance this year, but we had originally hoped to pull off three. So what happened?
Well as we function as a group, in our home Church before we are able to have a
performance, we need to find a Sunday where five whole schedules are all open. If we plan
far enough in advance, this isn’t such a big problem, but this year… we didn’t, which meant
that it was basically impossible to find any days where we were all free. This year, we had
also hoped to post another fresh photo shoot, (with some new fun elements and surprises,
but we’ll save those to show you later.) We scheduled a day, got together, and even made it
just over half-way through the photo shoot when there was an accident, our designated
photographer, (Cupcake’s mom) got hurt, and we had to cut it short so she could get home
and bandaged up. We planned on getting back together to finish the photo shoot before the
month was up and post it here for August, but the way that it worked out, we couldn’t find a
time to get back together as a group, and then it dropped off of our radar, as we attempted
to schedule our performances.
Next year:
There are many things that would be great to accomplish in the next year. To start with, we
are hoping to have a blog post up regularly each month, rather than the six months or so,
and sudden drop off that we had this year. To help accomplish this goal we are talking about
having some “cram days” where we make sure we are prepared for the next six months or
so, and then simply posting them on time, and possibly even having them scheduled so we
just have to watch them go live. We are also hoping to have a full three performances this
coming year, in which we will continue in our Fruits of the Spirit theme, as well as change
many things. Most excitingly though, we are planning on having an introduction for Storm,
after which she will be working on becoming a regular fixture in our performances, and
general clowning around!
Thanks Everyone for reading this far and we hope you stay for the ride that 2019 will bring.
