So... What's this all about?

You might ask us who we are. Well, we are going to tell you.  
We are Dizzy and Cupcake.


I’m Dizzy and I have made Dizzy a crazy ‘dizzy’ clown who loves to spin with her pinwheels.



And I’m Cupcake and I have made Cupcake a ‘sweet’ clown who loves to play with her bunny frosting.



We, Dizzy and Cupcake, are the two clowns that make up Something Silly. Something Silly Clowns is our small Christian clown troop where our main mission is to spread God’s love. We mainly minister to kids ages 2-7 and the elderly.


About six months ago we were looking for a name for our troupe and we ran across this, incredible poem by Shel Silverstein called “Put something in.”

"Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-grumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
'Cross the kitchen floor,
Put something silly in the world
That ain't been there before.

At that point we became Something Silly, where we were going to “put something silly in the world that ain't been there before”. We are not expert clowns but we do have 4+ years of experience that we plan to share with with those who want to come along for the ride, your experience likely WILL be different but this is how it worked for us. 

Now that you know who we are we thought you might want to know what we plan to do on this blog.

But first a little bit of backstory: when we first started clowning our teacher was passionate about clowning but not as much with teaching. So we had a little bit of a trial by fire experience, followed by another teacher who was overcommitted already and was thrown into the leadership position. We also had a problem with finding much material online to help us out.

So one of our main plans for this blog is to maybe help some other clowns avoid some of the pitfalls that we fell into, as well as help you with any questions you may have to the best of our abilities. The main points we want to teach new clowns is how we came up with our makeup, characters, and costumes, along with anything else that we think a new clown might need to know (but old timers you’re welcome too). The other major part of this blog will be our experiences as clowns. We want to share our personal journeys from the past to the present and even into the future.

Feel free to post any questions that you may have below, and we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible. Please follow us to keep on track with our posts (we are planning to try to post about once a month).

You may think “Why should I bother to choose a theme for my performance”, and we have come up with 3 main reasons why. First, what is a theme or topic? A theme or topic for a performance is one idea or event that the whole performance is based around. Examples of this are the Christmas or Easter story and peace or love. The first reason to choose a theme is to make it easier for you. As the creator, it is easier to either find or create material for one topic rather than 3 or 4. Something Silly Clowns is one!

Something Silly Clowns has turned one and to celebrate we are going to recap the last year of ups and downs, good times and bad, comments that made us laugh and so much more. We are going to go over what we were thinking at the beginning of last year as it relates to now. We also want to make a list of things we may want to do in the coming year. We are going to break our updates into 5 categories; Ideas from last year, We did it!!, Best moments, Toughest problems, and Next year. Now come along with us to recap this amazing last (and first!) year. Let's start in November of last year.
