Why we video our performances?
Hey everyone, we're back. If you don’t know us we are Cupcake and Dizzy, two fun loving clowns. Today, as the title of the post reveals, we will be talking about our performance videos.
Some of you might be wondering why we record our performances and then post them to YouTube. So that is what we are going to talk about today.
We have 6 main reasons that we have chosen to record and share our performances on YouTube. Here they are for you.
So that we can watch them and critique ourselves
In the past, we had never seen ourselves perform and we never had anything to look back on and critique. Now that we have the videos we can look back and see what went well and what to do better next time, and even what the kids did or didn’t seem to get or get into. We also have others who we just send the link to and they give us their feedback as non-performances so that we can continue to grow.
So that we have the documentation
In the past we wanted to look back at exactly what skits we did at a certain performance, but due to the fact that we did not have good notes or any videos, we were unable to see what we had done. Now that we have started to record our performances we can go back and look at exactly what skits and sketches we have done in what performances. Also as our audience grows we can watch to see how their sense of humor changes so we can tailor our jokes to them a little bit better.
So others can see what we do
When we have people who are interested in what we do we, we can now send them to our YouTube channel and they can see what we do first hand, so there are no long complicated explanations required. Instead, they can go see what we do and judge it for themselves.
So that we can share with more people
When we do our performances live, we typically have a small audience of 5-10. Now that we chose to post our videos we are reaching a larger audience. We want to be able to reach as many people as possible and with YouTube, we can reach people in any place, at any time, and of any backgrounds. Recording our performances and posting them on YouTube has grown who we can minister to.
Us and our whole audience
So others can get ideas
There are somewhat limited good skits online and even videos of skits are hard to find, so by sharing our videos we can help to give other clowns ideas of skits that they could use for their own performances. Others can also see exactly how a skit could be done before they even practice it. It would have been extremely helpful if we had had videos like this when we were starting but now we have them to help others.(Also the reason for this blog.)
If you think that this is an idea that could help you make your performances better; to document them, to show others, to grow your audience, or so that other clowns can get ideas, then you may be wondering how you could do this yourself.
It really is relatively simple, many people already have phones that can take videos so that you don’t even need a fancy camera. All you really need to do is set up your phone or camera and press record then start performing, and that is about it.
You may find it strange or even difficult to watch yourself at first, but don’t worry this isn’t unusual. We both found it strange seeing ourselves when we started as well. Before long you may even (as we have) find yourself looking forward to seeing the performances! We truly believe that even during moments where you watch as a joke fails and find yourself cringing, you can grow and learn from your mistakes.
